Yad's First Time To Fly! Part II

I've gone off-topic on that one LOL!.

Let's go back to Yad.

When we we're first boarding for our flight departure to Manila, he showed to me like he was used to riding a plane. Like, he would climb up the stairs up the plane as if he knows the way. He would look for our seat numbers like he's been in the plane for a number of times already. And, he would even point my seatbelt and tell me to wear it. I was a bit surprised, because it was not what I expected from him.

I thought, he's gonna be the shy boy not to anticipate and just wait for me to instruct him what to do on those things But on a second thought, Yad has always acted like the confident little man whenever he's with me. When we were at NAIA terminal 3, he acted the same. When he wants to go and use the restroom, he would not ask me to accompany him. He'd instead go and look for it himself. When he wants to eat, he'd only ask money from me and go to the snack bars and buy his food. The same thing when it was finally our time to board the plane going back to Legazpi airport, he went up without waiting for me and proceeded like he was a frequent flyer.

However, there's one thing that he can't hide the truth of him being still a kid. The true Yad surfaced when he has all this kind of curiosity on many things inside the plane. Yad, fyi, is a kid you'll want to prepare with tons of right information because he's always gonna bombard you with questions, sometimes with out-of-this-world ones, and follow-up questions. So, as expected, he asked me about all these stuffs he saw in the plane, and wondered loudly why did our voices become very tiny when we we're up there? :P I almost went a little fed up with his unending questions, but you know, being, the mommy of this little man, I'm used to it.

So, there! That was my "little" experience with this first travel together with my little man.

Why Do You Need Cisco Certification?

For those who want to get an employment in an IT or outsourcing company, better be armed with a Cisco certification to get higher chances of landing a position with a higher compensation. This was what I learned from some of my colleagues who earned Training Certificates from Cisco. They told me that they got the job fairly easier than the others since most of IT and outsourcing companies prefer employees who have finished training programs from this Networking Academy. Though some may be prepared because of their experience in IT companies, still you got more edge if you are a Cisco graduate and the certificate is included in your list of credentials.

Lots of my friends were IT enthusiasts and Computer Science graduates. But, in terms of potentials in the IT companies, they got relatively little chances to securing jobs from them. I also knew some younger people who are very enthusiastic about securing IT jobs. But the same, I doubt if they could have more pots of luck in this industry. Why? Because, they lack the must-have Cisco Certificate. So, being the empathetic friend that I always am, I always advise them to look for schools that have partnered with Cisco Learning Network here in our place. I knew some popular Universities and Schools have affiliated with Cisco, so it isn't as difficult finding this Learning Network as it was during my much-younger years. So, guys, check that out in your place and find the right training program which suits your needs best. By the way, they offer different IT programs, so I know there is one that you will find best for you.

July 24 - Unforgettable First Day, Preliminary Exams

Today marked the start of our preliminary examinations. I have a schedule at 8:45-9:45AM. I have another at 1:00-3:00PM. The first one went well, no problems or any hassles arose in between. More so, I'm confident that I passed the exam. It was easy. After the first exam, I went home to freshen myself up (the temperature's so high up in school), and eat lunch. At 12:30PM, I was on my way to AUL. I was almost late when I reached the gate of the University, so I hurried my pace so I'd be in the assigned examination room right on time.

But that did not happen...

What did?

You'll never imagine it!

I already noticed the way I walked was kind of a little weird after covering like 25meters from the gate of the school, but ignored it for my mind was fully-occupied of the exams. When I was more than halfway of the distance from the gate to the assigned room, it was then that I started to feel there's really something wrong.

My shoes (with 2.5 inches heel), or rather the pressure/weight I put on the shoe on my left leg, turned jelly. Feeling my stomach with butterflies already, I checked by looking down at it behind me.

Good lord, was I so aghast to find out the heel on my right pump had actually come loose! I was aware that, any more pressure put on it, the heel goes off. So, I did not anymore attempt of going further. Instead, turned left and quickly got my weak walk up the little ramp that goes up the ladies room to further examine the thing. I was fortunate enough that there was only a few people and I don't think they understood my predicament; HOWEVER, panic was already rising in me as I knew there's no way I could fix it, and sweat was starting to form on my face.

As soon as I got inside one of the cubicles in the comfort room, I tried to fix the pump's heel but it already gave in. The damn heel even went off completely after several tries of fixing! The temperature suddenly and ridiculously went impossibly high, although it wasn't as hot inside. I tried to remember what the girl did when she experienced the same thing on one of Mentos TV commercials, but my pump shoes are not the kind that you could take off the heels, and use them like they were flat shoes. No, it's simply impossible!

It was a good thing that Annie, a high school best friend, is a regular employee at the finance department of the University, and she rushed in to my aide after sending her a text message. She was always a dependable person in cases like this, but she was laughing hard at my predicament when she brought me a pair of slippers and got me a tri-wheel vehicle so I could go home and change.

As anticipated, I wasn't able to take my Chemistry examination because of that "little accident..."

When I got home, I changed my uniform into civilian clothes. Next, went to the mall to buy a new pair. I got myself a nice, little, black pumps; but, whew! The cost! I also went back to school to ask for a special examination. Thanks to my Chemistry instructor, she allowed me to take it at that very moment. It was really embarrassing; but, heck! I knew I'm not the only person to experience such, ayt?

But, of course, there are lessons.

Ladies, remember these two things:

First, always check your things before leaving.

Second, if you feel like there's something wrong or suspicious in any of your things, trust your instinct that there really is.

So, there! Today was just one of my unforgettable and embarrassing predicaments. I have many of them, mind you. lol!

My Free Review for AUL's Internet facilityÜ

I'm at school right now, trying to consume part of the 15hours internet time I paid upon enrollment. This was the only second time that I was able to use my internet time here. I wasn't doing anything important right now except one paid post, so why not put my time to charity use? This is for the benefit of Aquinas University. I've been doing paid reviews for some months now, and I thought why not do a free review to my beloved Alma Mater*wink*

I'm putting a review to their internet facility, so here it goes:

Pros
1. Hmm, internet connection is a bit slow*. But as far as I can remember it, today's speed is better than when I was enrolled at this University during my late teen and early 20's of my life. Yeah, I'm old, I know. Ü And in fact, I can do my blogging and open websites at the same time, which you could execute only at high-speed internet.

2. The number of computer sets reaches more than 30 (this was based on my quick count, so not accurate). This is a far cry to the more or less 20 sets (I can't remember it now, blame it to the number of years added to my age hehehe) , which, as students, we always used to impatiently wait for our turn to use one of the desktops back then. In order for us to claim our turn, we have to surrender our white forms to the student assistant on duty for the queuing.

3. Automated logging-in facility. Using internet no longer requires you to surrender your white form for the queuing. One-time registration of your student number and password is the only thing you are required to do. After which, you can use the internet without asking the SA to reserve you a seat. Once there is a vacant desktop, you can log in using your student number and registered password, then surf all you want.

4. Internet room is now big. In fact, this is a lot bigger than the room where we used to squeeze our body in between the wall and the backs of students using the internet facility in order for us to access the computer. I'd be lucky then if the alloted computer desktop is located near the table of the student assistant. Because of the limited internet room space, there were only two rows of desktops and students in view. Thankfully, that is not the case anymore.

5. Nicely-ventilated, air-conditioned room. Air-conditioning unit is working, as in, in top condition. This is another reason why I liked visiting this room. It's so hot outside, so even if there is no need to go online, I'd still go up the second level to escape the extreeemely uncomfortable temperature. Ü

Cons

1. Not enough desktop computers. I've said a while ago the number of computer units increased as compared to older years; however, if you'd consider the thousands of students in this University, it's still not enough.

2. A handful of the computer units are not working. Maybe our computer technicians could repair these units asap, so at least, the number of students deprived to use the facility lessens.

3. There are other days when internet connection is really so slooow. This is understandable since in some cases, it can be the result of poor internet provider's service; however, they could have at least inform us by putting some sort of announcement at the door.

I can't think of any cons anymore, so I'd conclude it here now. As we can see, my personal review shows pros outweigh cons. Therefore, I can say that Aquinas University has gone a long, long way if you compare it to the days when I and my former batchmates were still walking our life together in this University.

More Complaints From Me...

Today is Monday. And Monday is the judgment day re my school curriculum case. Alright, I received the verdict. I am to continue my old curriculum, with subjects or courses that were assembled many years ago. Hooray for me! I am no longer to course through the new CS curriculum and that means I don't need to sweat two years out just to finish this long-overdue bachelor's degree of BS. Thanks, Mrs. Roque for that! Now, I have something to look forward to, as far as my future is concerned.

Now, am I finished with my enrollment yet? No. I have collected, which I have done so by rounding the University and getting my skin scorched to the heat of the sun(argh!), almost half of the subject courses I've yet to complete in two semesters; and I thought I was already there. BUT, it turned out, it was the beginning of a new dilemma! Now, I am actually experiencing the real pain of being a returnee to the University, after how many years of being out-of-school student. I've seen this difficulty experienced by other returnees in the past, but I've never thought I'd be one of them.

So, what is really the catch? Here: my program/curriculum was old, so that can only mean my subject courses were also outdated. Well, they were not literally outdated, but some of the components were different. Number of units also varies from the current subjects offered, so I am having a difficulty synchronizing my old courses to the new ones, meaning I'm going through real tough time of looking for subject courses that match those that are listed in the curriculum I took way, way back then. Now, I'm not really, really certain if I can make it all to my target date.

Tomorrow, I am going back to school, not to attend classes but to continue my late enrollment procedure. To think, I've started it more than two weeks ago. But, here I am, they're calling me late enrollee? Sweet? Not! I'm almost on the verge of giving up! If not only for the goals I've set ...

Decision-Making Time (Should I or Should I Not?)

I haven't visited Aquinas University of Legazpi to enroll my subjects yet. I know I should have done it a week early so things would have been a bit clearer for me. But since I haven't, things are even getting vague for me. I'm confused, but right now, I feel like I'm still a helpless creature trying to put together some pieces to build a puzzle. So...

Should I resign or not? Should I quit my job and concentrate on my studies so in 2-semesters time, I'd graduate? Should I do that, so after a year I can go seek another job which can help me grow more, career- and personality-wise? But should I also quit the job and receive no more monthly salaries, which, I admit, have been very helpful to survive my personal and non-personal finances needs?

Oh, these questions have been plaguing me for a couple of months already. But until now, I haven't decided yet... I'm in the stage where confusion is best getting hold of me. I wish tomorrow that stage moves on and clears my mind, so I can decide firmly on the issue...

*Sigh* I'm hoping I could do the decision-making process in couple of days.
